WebPort Overview. Umm Qasr Port is the largest Iraqi port as well as the only deep-water port, located in Basra Governorate in Umm Qasr region near Iraqi-Kuwaiti border. It's managed by the General Company for Ports of Iraq (GCPI). The port was established in 1930 and is considered one of the most important ports in Iraq. The city is located along the Shatt al-Arab waterway, 55 kilometers (34 mi) from the Persian Gulf and 545 kilometers (339 mi) from Baghdad, Iraq's capital and largest city. Its economy is largely dependent on the oil industry. Iraq has the world's 4th largest oil reserves estimated to be more 115 billion barrels (18.3×10 m ).
