While traps can allow you to do insane melee damage they are very easy to bait and or avoid. A reliance on traps for melee damage/stopping power thus makes you extremely vulnerable to skilled groups. For PVE, Guardian hammer only has 2 always useful skills (1 and 2), 2 conditionally useful (4 and 5, though for an interrupt 4 takes a while to get out), and a basically never useful skill.
